Have been reading this forum for some time, but this is my first post.
My wife is expecting our first child and, being a watch enthusiast, I have a cunning plan. I would like to buy a classic for my son, to be hidden away until their 21st birthday. On that day, they would receive a brand new, vintage watch. What a romantic I am.
So my question is, which watch do you think fits this bill? Bearing in mind budget would be $10-12,000 (but can be flexible I guess.) My gut instinct says Rolex, and then a Submariner or perhaps Datejust 41mm (fluted bezel, Jubilee bracelet, probably black dial). Both in steel.
However I'm open to ideas. I have a Portuguese Chronograph which I love, and an Automatic from the same family could work. Probably won't be able to stretch to Patek or A. Lange & Sohne.
So, over to you. Any great ideas?
